Gilded is a blowout bar that keeps the lights on after everyone else has swept up. We do three things — blowouts, extensions, and evening hair — and we do them until eleven on a Friday, because that is when people actually need them.

How it started

Sasha spent twelve years doing session work: four in the morning call times, hair built to survive a lighting rig and then combed straight out at wrap. What she noticed, over and over, was that the hair nobody was building was the hair for the evening itself — the dinner, the opening, the thing at eight-thirty that you cannot show up to with a ponytail from that morning.

Every salon in the city closed at six. So the plan was simple and slightly stupid: open at ten, close at eleven, and staff the late chairs with the same people who work at noon. Gilded opened on South Beverly Drive in 2019 with four chairs, a basin, and a licence that let us stay open past nine.

It has stayed small on purpose. Six chairs now, one extension room behind the wall, and a hard cap on how many appointments go on the book after eight — because a late chair that is rushed is worse than no late chair at all.

How the bar works

Four things that hold whether you are booked at eleven in the morning or half past nine at night.

    The late chair is the same chair

    Same stylists, same product, same time on the clock, same price. The 9:30pm slot is not a discount service run by whoever drew the short straw — it is the reason this place exists, and it is staffed accordingly.

  2. 02

    It has to hold for three days

    A blowout that looks extraordinary for four hours is a photograph, not a service. We set every section cool in the brush, we finish light on product, and we would rather you left with less spray in your hair and more shape underneath it.

  3. 03

    Extensions get a no when a no is right

    Density is assessed at the hairline before any hair is ordered. If your hair cannot carry the weight, you are told at the consultation and offered fewer rows or none at all. We have turned down full installs and kept the client for four years.

  4. 04

    We stay in our lane

    No lightening, no colour correction, no keratin. Three services, done properly, beats eleven done adequately — and when you need a colourist we will give you two names and no commission arrangement with either.

The room

Six chairs facing a single mirror wall, lit warm from the front rather than overhead, so nobody is looking at the underside of their own jaw for an hour. The back of the room is darker on purpose; the extension room behind the wall is brighter, because matching tone needs honest light.

There is a bar at the front with proper glasses. Espresso until seven, something colder after that. The music gets a little louder after eight and nobody has ever asked us to turn it down.

Where
Ground floor, between Charleville and Gregory Way. Look for the brass door with no name on it; the entrance is the second one in from the corner.
Parking
Two hours validated in the Beverly Drive structure on Charleville. Street meters stop running at 6pm — after that the block in front of us is free.

Sasha spent twelve years as a session stylist on set — call times at four in the morning, hair built to hold under lights for six hours and then get taken straight out. She opened Gilded because the one thing set work never asks is whether the hair survives an actual evening.

She sets the standard on the floor: root lift you can feel, ends that stay closed, and nothing sprayed so hard it cannot be touched. If a blowout leaves here that she would not wear herself, it goes back in the chair.

Extension Lead

Imani runs extensions end to end: consultation, ordering, install, every move-up, and the removal. Nobody else in the building touches a weft, which means the hair on your head is always going back to the person who put it there.

She is candid to the point of bluntness about density. A fine hairline that cannot carry three rows gets told so at the consultation, before any hair is ordered, and she would rather lose the booking than watch a client's temples thin out over a year.

Senior Stylist — Evening & Bridal

Mateo came from a decade of wedding and event work, where a look has to be repeated exactly eight weeks after the trial, on a different morning, in a different room. He photographs and writes up every trial so the day-of version is not a memory exercise.

On weeknights he takes the late updo slots. He is unhurried about them — a chignon that has to hold through a nine-course dinner is not something you get to rush at half past eight.

Blowout Bar Lead

Yuki built the express side of the bar. Thirty minutes, dry hair, no wash — she worked out what can honestly be done in that window and what cannot, and then refused to put anything on the menu that could not.

She trains everyone who joins on the round brush, and she is precise about the boring parts: section size, nozzle angle, and letting each section cool in the brush before it is dropped. That last one is why her blowouts still look like that on day three.

    We are not a colour salon and do not pretend to be. No lightener touches anyone's hair in this building.

    Extensions are quoted after a consultation, never over the phone, and the hair takes about ten days to arrive.

    The last full blowout goes in ninety minutes before close; express work is taken until thirty minutes before.

    Gratuity is never added automatically, and the price you are quoted is the price on the card.
